Sailor and his wife sentenced for roles in child rape

A Bangor-based sailor who pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a teenage girl and boy will serve more than 16 years in prison. His wife also will spend a few months behind bars for being an accomplice to child rape.

A judge sentenced David A. Holmes and Brenda K. Holmes, both 40, Wednesday in Kitsap County Superior Court. David was given 200 months in prison while his wife received the three-month sentence, according to deputy prosecutor Kevin Hull.

David, a sailor aboard the submarine USS Ohio, pleaded guilty in August to one count of first-degree child rape and two counts of second-degree child rape. He was arrested in August 2008 after allegedly abusing two relatives, a then 15-year-old girl and 16-year-old boy, according to court documents.

The girl told Naval Criminal Investigative Services personnel last year David raped her “at least two times a week … since she was 13 years old,” NCIS documents state.

The boy said David first committed sex acts with him when he was in third grade and occurred several times when he was between 8 and 12 years of age, according to court documents.

Brenda pleaded guilty to felony communication with a minor for immoral purposes, court documents state. The teenage girl was allegedly forced to watch the couple have sexual intercourse and, on one occasion, she videotaped them having sexual intercourse.
