Rotary recruiting exchange students | Rotary News | September

For the rest of August and during September Kingston-North Kitsap Rotary’s major effort will be to recruit good candidates for the club’s Short Term Exchange Program for next summer.

Through this program an American high school student will travel abroad to spend a month in a home with a child of similar age. The two students would then travel together back to the United States where the foreign student becomes a guest in the American’s home for a month.

Rotary’s function is to match applicants carefully so they and their families are compatible and do everything possible to make certain that the two students have a rewarding and safe experience. It is important to note, however, that travel expenses must be paid by the families. The club is seeking to find one or more Kingston High School students for the program. Interested students can contact Rotary for information.

The club is also assembling a list of community service projects for 2011. A portion of the funds raised from the summer golf tourney, the summer concerts beer garden and other fundraisers is directed right back into the community. Contact a club member if there is a need that should be taken under consideration.

Closing out the 2010 commitments, the club is looking at finishing a long list of rehab project at the Kingston Co-op Preschool and building community benches.
