Poulsbo home destroyed in Tuesday morning fire

A fire reported about 10:25 a.m. Tuesday morning destroyed a home near the intersection of Lincoln and Widme roads in Poulsbo.

A woman who briefly left a rented carpet cleaner plugged into an outlet in her Poulsbo home Tuesday morning returned to find flames, smoke and bursting windows in her living room.

The 62-year-old woman had plugged in the machine, but wasn’t sure whether or not it was turned on, when she left the room for another task, said Poulsbo Fire spokeswoman Jody Matson.

Crews from Poulsbo Fire, North Kitsap Fire & Rescue and Naval Base Kitsap, Bangor, responded to the fire at 20618 Widme Road at about 10:25 a.m. Tuesday morning.

The woman, the home’s owner and only resident, escaped uninjured.

Crews continued to check for hotspots and salvageable items through the morning Tuesday. The official cause of the fire had not yet been determined.

The fire was contained to the living room and kitchen, but much of the home was smoke damaged, crews said. Both water and foam were used to fight the fire.
