Pick up a good read at the Kingston Library | Check It Out | December

Our seasonal theme for December is: “Warm Up With a Good Book!” We are always eager to recommend a title for you to read.

Kitsap Regional Library has databases chock full of reader’s advisory information. Just give us a start, such as a character that you enjoyed in a novel, and we can use novelist or what do I read next to find you a similar story or author to follow up with.

We are also anxious to show you how to use these valuable tools at home or on your own, so that you can easily find more materials that you will like.

Our morning book discussion group will meet at 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 2, downstairs from the library in the Indianola Room of the community center. “Things Fall Apart” by Chinua Achebe will be the topic of discussion.

A simple story of a strong man whose life is dominated by fear and anger, it is written with remarkable economy and subtle irony. Uniquely and richly African, at the same time, it reveals Achebe’s keen awareness of the human qualities common to men of all times and places.

Please drop by to pick up your copy of the book and join us.

The Kingston Friends of the Library will be meeting at 10 a.m. on Dec. 8. They will be making preparations for the next big book sale scheduled on Jan. 23.

Members only will be admitted to the sale from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., with admittance to the general public beginning at 10 a.m. Donations of new and gently used books are welcome. Bring them to the library or call us at (360) 297-3330, if you need help transporting them to us.

We are pleased to have hired a children’s librarian that we will be sharing with Little Boston and Silverdale branch libraries.

Tomi Whalen will be beginning her Kitsap Regional Library hours in December. We working to finalize her story time schedules and should have publicity out during the month of December. Some of you will remember Whalen from her time at Little Boston. She is a welcome addition to our staff and we encourage you to drop by on Wednesdays to say hello.

Finally, we are eager for you to come and take a look at our reconfigured circulation area. We now have a bin for your returns and a set of freshly painted walls behind and adjacent to our tables. Our children’s materials have been moved around somewhat, so please do not hesitate to ask if you do not find your favorite board books or music CDs.

Come and check it out!
