Shawn Woodward was selected as the North Kitsap School District’s new Executive Director of Teaching and Learning. He will take over the position now held by MaryLou Murphy, who is retiring at the end of this school year.
Woodward has been a principal in the Burlington-Edison school district since 1999. He was principal of the Lucille Umbarger School (K-8) from 1999 to 2005, and principal of the Edison School (K-8) since 2005. He was a teacher at Sunnyslope Elementary School and Cedar Heights Junior High in the South Kitsap School District from 1992-1999.
At the district level, he was a member of the Strategic Planning Committee and District Leadership teams. At his school, he facilitated the development of monthly formative assessments for TERC Investigations Math, and aligned curriculum, instruction and assessment activities focused on mathematics, reading and writing.
Woodward grew up in Kitsap County and still has many family members and friends in the area. He’s excited to be coming to North Kitsap and looks forward to getting to know everyone.
