Verksted artist
Mixed-media artist Eileen Sorg is exhibiting at the Verksted Gallery in Poulsbo as a special guest artist in April.
“I use traditional drawing techniques layering colored pencil over watercolor and ink on Arches hot-press watercolor paper. Primarily I am a draftsman rather than a painter, as I am most comfortable with a pencil in my hand, languishing over all the tiny changes in tone and hue,” she says.
“One of the many reasons colored pencil is my chosen medium is the elegant way in which it straddles the line between drawing and painting. I almost always look to the outdoors for inspiration. I am interested in my wildlife subject’s essence and vitality and seek to capture their playful, sometimes mischievous side — catching them in the act of behaving unexpectedly.”
Sorg launched her art career while she was an artist-member of the 36-year-old co-op gallery. The gallery features 29 regional artists with original, hand-crafted work. The fine arts & crafts include works ranging from watercolors, photography, raku pottery, jewelry, fine woodworking, mosaics, paintings and more. Visit the gallery’s website: www.verkstedgallery.com for details. The gallery is located at 18937 Front St. 360-697-4470. Open 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily.
Bridge closure
Travelers who use the State Route 104 Hood Canal Bridge between Jefferson and Kitsap counties are encouraged to plan for additional travel time on weekdays in April.
Beginning the week of April 10, Washington State Department of Transportation bridge preservation crews will conduct an in-depth inspection of the bridge that requires opening the draw span multiple times daily. During the draw span openings, the bridge is closed to vehicle traffic, bicyclists, and pedestrians.
Inspection schedule: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 10-14; and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 17-21.
The typical duration of each draw span opening will close the bridge to traffic for 15 minutes to one hour.
Suquamish cleanup
The Suquamish Community Earth Day Cleanup will take place from 9 a.m. to noon April 22.

Styrofoam recycle
It’s always a struggle trying to find a way to get rid of styrofoam. And the more we use Amazon the more it piles up.
Kitsap County Solid Waste Division and DTG Recycle are having a Styrofoam and Mattress Recycling event April 15. It will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Kitsap Fairgrounds, 1200 Fairgrounds Road NW in Silverdale.
