New exhibit
The Kitsap History Museum in Bremerton has a new exhibit, “Journey to Kitsap,” which tells the story of immigration to the Kitsap Peninsula.
“Journey to Kitsap” features a variety of personal stories, artifacts and photographs from immigrants and their descendants. Visitors can learn about the challenges and triumphs of immigration, as well as the ways in which immigrant communities have shaped the Kitsap Peninsula. The exhibit also includes a section on immigration policy through history and its impact on immigrant communities.
The public opening will begin at 5 p.m. April 7 at 280 Fourth St. Curator Jeanine Greco will give a talk about the exhibit at 6 p.m. The museum is open Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are welcome.
It’s the first “temporary” exhibit since the week before COVID started, said Lisa Hope, museum marketing director.
Fire retirement
Firefighter and paramedic Greg Cable is officially calling it a career after serving Kitsap County for 40 years, 39 with South Kitsap Fire and Rescue.
The department announced Cable had worked his last shift March 18. After serving one year in Central Kitsap in 1983, he moved to Kitsap County Fire District 7, which had just one fire station at the time.
SKFR fire chief Jeff Faucett said: “His ability to treat patients with some of the best patient care has been amazing to watch. He was able to recognize the seriousness of a patient’s injury or illness, and it was the fastest I have seen.”
Styrofoam recycle
It’s always a struggle trying to find a way to get rid of styrofoam. And the more we use Amazon the more it piles up.
Kitsap County Solid Waste Division and DTG Recycle are having a Styrofoam and Mattress Recycling event April 15. It will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Kitsap Fairgrounds, 1200 Fairgrounds Road NW in Silverdale.
