Miss Poulsbo hopefuls ready for pageantry

POULSBO — As the current Miss Poulsbo Brenna Gardner-Brown prepares to end her reign, she’ll do it with a little bit of rock and a whole lot of roll — in Vegas style to be exact. Six contestants will vie for the title at the 53rd Miss Poulsbo Pageant at the Bremerton High School Performing Arts Center. It begins at 6 p.m. March 24, but for the winner, a journey also begins as the crown carries with it the opportunity to compete in the Miss Washington Pageant.

POULSBO — As the current Miss Poulsbo Brenna Gardner-Brown prepares to end her reign, she’ll do it with a little bit of rock and a whole lot of roll — in Vegas style to be exact.

Six contestants will vie for the title at the 53rd Miss Poulsbo Pageant at the Bremerton High School Performing Arts Center. It begins at 6 p.m. March 24, but for the winner, a journey also begins as the crown carries with it the opportunity to compete in the Miss Washington Pageant.

The young women will take the stage with 11 Miss Kitsap contestants for their share of more than $25,000 in scholarship money from the Miss Poulsbo Organization.

The 2007 Miss Poulsbo contestants are:

• Heather Raines of Poulsbo, daughter of David and LeAnne Raines. Raines, 18, is a senior at North Kitsap High School with plans of owning her own architectural firm.

Raines will perform a belly dance to “Ice Queen.” She has chosen “Breast Cancer Awareness” as her platform.

She is sponsored by Stella’s Pizza and Pasta and Wild Horse BBQ.

• Ellie Paget of Poulsbo, daughter of John Paget and Le Fung Chao. Paget, 18, is a senior at Academy Northwest with plans on earning a degree in marine economy.

Paget will perform a martial arts presentation, and her platform is “Volunteerism: Living a Better Life.”

She is sponsored by Fitness at Play and AroyDy Thai Cuisine.

• KayAnna Crowder of Poulsbo, 17, daughter of Scott and Kimberlee Crowder, is a senior at North Kitsap High School with plans of teaching English to native-speaking French students.

Crowder will sing “Colors of the Wind” from Disney’s “Pocahontas.” She has chosen “Environmental Awareness” as her platform.

She is sponsored by Tizley’s Europub and Liberty Bay Auto.

• Lauren Schilt of Poulsbo, 20, daughter of Michael and Susan Schilt, is a student at Olympic College with plans of opening her own gym, focusing on helping young people stay in shape.

Humphrey will play Chopin’s “Nocturne Op 72 N1” on the piano for her talent. She has chosen “Building Confidence and Self Esteem in Children” as her platform.

She is sponsored by the Poulsbo Dairy Queen and ADA Engineering.

• Erinn Bartlett of Poulsbo, 20, daughter of Steven and Joanne Bartlett, is a sophomore at Olympic College.

Bartlett will perform a jazz dance to Bette Midler’s “Fever.” She has chosen “global warming” as her platform.

She is sponsored by Terhune Custom Homes, Miller Bay Water Co., Galleta School of Dance and J’aime Les Crepes.

• Alex Duchemin of Poulsbo, 22, daughter of Michael and Wendy Duchemin, is a graduate of Western Washington University.

Duchemin will perform the dramatic monologue “Coat of Many Colors.” She has chosen “The Power of ONE: Bringing Differently Abled Individuals Together as ONE Community” as her platform.

She is sponsored by Signature Mortgage.
