Man arrested for vehicular assault; another for burglary

A 62-year-old man was in Kitsap County Jail on $500,000 bail after being charged with suspicion of vehicular assault in Superior Court Nov. 8.

He faces 10 years in prison and/or a $20,000 fine.

On Nov. 7 around 5:05 p.m. Bremerton police responded to a collision at Winfield Avenue and east 16th Street. The caller said a vehicle had careened through some trees and into their yard.

One of the drivers tried to leave the scene, but couldn’t because of damage to the vehicle. Police added he smelled of alcohol and breath mints. Police say he allegedly went through a stop sign, leading to the collision. He has three prior DUIs, in 1998, 1999 and 2006.

There was a child in the other vehicle. The woman driver injured her hand.

Also in Bremerton, a 25-year-old man is in jail on $225,000 bail on three charges of burglary in the second degree.

He allegedly stole a $1,800 mountain bike in the 600 block of Highland. He also reportedly stole an electric bike worth $2,500 in the 300 block of Washington Avenue.

And, in the 400 block of Washington Avenue, he allegedly damaged locks on garages and searched through vehicles.

Police say cameras in the area caught the suspect in action.
