Linda Allen gives concert, workshop

Singer/songwriter Linda Allen celebrates her 60th birthday and the release of her latest CD, “Where I Stand,” with a concert 7:30 p.m. Jan. 20 at Island Center Hall, 8395 Fletcher Bay Rd., Bainbridge Island, and a vocal workshop the following day. Allen’s accomplishments include tenure as Washington state’s resident songwriter, a doctoral degree and the raising of “three talented children.”

Allen’s accomplishments include tenure as Washington state’s resident songwriter, a doctoral degree and the raising of “three talented children.”

Her new album, number seven, includes a lament for victims of the tsunami and Hurricane Katrina, and the title song is dedicated to Women in Black and New York lawyer Lynne Stewart, convicted in 2004 of aiding terrorist activities.

Admission is $12 at the door.

Allen will also lead a natural voice workshop 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 21 at the Strawberry Hill Center, 7666 High School Rd., on Bainbridge. Cost for the workshop is $30, register at (206) 842-2306. Both events are sponsored by Bainbridge Island Park and Recreation District.
