Soup can first sign of burglar
A can of Campbell’s soup did an “M’m! M’m!” good job of hinting there was a burglary.
A 36-year-old South Prairie man was in Kitsap County Superior Court April 7 charged with two crimes from a year-old warrant. Bail was $150,000. He faces a maximum of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine for theft of a firearm and the same penalties for residential burglary.
Court papers show Kitsap deputies responded April 23, 2024, at 12:30 p.m. to the 2500 block of Beach Drive E in Port Orchard. A couple who came home from work saw someone had entered their house through an unlocked back slider. The woman noticed the soup can on the bathroom sink, then jewelry boxes askew on the shelf behind her.
The man looked at home security video, which showed a suspect. He asked around at a nearby gas station and found a suspect. That man’s aunt told police he had been acting strange that day and probably was high so she asked him to leave. She confirmed the man in the video was her nephew. A transient, he was only recently arrested.
License-plate flipper didn’t help suspect
Bail was set at $200,000 for a 45-year-old Kent man charged with intent to deliver a controlled substance, even using a remote-operated license plate flipper to avoid police.
He was in Superior Court April 8. If convicted, he faces a maximum of 10 years in prison and from $1,000 to $25,000 in fines, depending on the amount of the drugs, court records say.
Bremerton police originally arrested the suspect at 1:30 a.m. May 29, 2024 in the 4900 block of Auto Center Way. An officer saw drug paraphernalia and a large amount of cash in zip-lock baggies inside a car. After obtaining a search warrant, police found $29,260 in cash in denominations of $10, $20, $50 and $100 bills. There was also 259.5 grams of heroin and three scales with drug residue on them. The street value of the block of heroin was $9,000. There was also $1,200 in surveillance equipment and a CB radio to scan police radios and a drone with a camera on it.
In the glove box were two overdue payment cards for legal obligations of $139,335.33 and $3,652.11. There was an issue trying to figure out which of two brothers owned the car as they both were uncooperative. They finally decided which one, and he was recently arrested on a warrant.
Bail $250K after fight with machete
Bail was set at $250,000 in Port Orchard Municipal Court April 7 for a man arrested on a warrant from March 18 that involved a fight with a machete.
The 33-year-old Port Orchard man was charged with harassment threat to kill. He faces five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Court documents show the suspect was arrested March 18 at 4:40 p.m. in the 2200 block of Sidney Avenue. The suspect had been following the victim, who then challenged him to a fight. The suspect then grabbed the machete and chased the victim. The suspect left in a spray-painted car with a blue holographic sticker in the rear window.
The two had been roommates up until about a month before. A witness said she and the suspect have a child together, but she has a protection order against him. The victim was waiting for a school bus with her and another woman when the suspect arrived.
‘Machine gun,’ mushrooms lead to son’s arrest
An 18-year-old Bremerton man was in Superior Court April 7 charged with three crimes, including possession of a “machine gun.”
He faces a maximum of 10 years in prison and a $20 fine for burglary, five years and $10,000 for malicious mischief, and another five years and $10,000 for unlawful possession of a machine gun.
Court documents say Kitsap deputies arrested the man April 4 at 1:54 p.m. in the 2500 block of NE Stone Way. A father said a son kicked in the front door and left with a gun. The son ran away about a year ago, but they reconnected. But since he had stolen items from family he was no longer welcome there. He went there anyway and fought with a brother, breaking his computer.
The suspect would not let officers handcuff him so he was taken to the ground. He had bullets, narcotic mushrooms and an automatic Glock 17 with an extended magazine, which makes it a “machine gun.”
Suspect cuts self when stabbing mattress
A 22-year-old Bremerton man was in Superior Court April 7 charged with assault and unlawful imprisonment.
He faces 15 years in prison and $30,000 in fines.
Court documents say the suspect was arrested at 6:07 p.m. April 5 in the 2800 block of Pine Road. A woman said her cousin texted her and said her boyfriend was hitting him. Bremerton police saw a woman with a bump on her head and injuries to her face. The suspect used a knife to threaten her. He then turned his anger toward a mattress and started stabbing it, but stabbed himself in the process. With blood on the mattress, he turned it upside down so officers couldn’t see. She had said she wanted to leave him, but he threatened her family, blocked the door and hit her again. He also took her phone away. He told her he wasn’t going to jail.
All happy about baby except the law
A 19-year-old man and 14-year-old girl are going to have a baby, and they and their families are happy about it — but not the law since it’s an illegal relationship.
The Bremerton man was in Superior Court April 11 charged with second-degree rape of a child. Bail was $250,000. He faces life in prison and $50,000 in fines.
Court papers say a Bremerton detective took on the case March 20 after receiving a Child Protective Services report from March 17. A mom and a family friend were concerned because a 14-year-old was throwing up and had not had her period for three months. A pregnancy test came back positive. Through an interpreter the mom said several times she was OK with this.
The girl met the man by phone, they went to a rental place, they “did something wrong,” and “that’s where my baby was created” when she was 13, she said. She added they had marijuana before they had consensual sex. The boyfriend and her parents are happy about the baby. The suspect said they had been dating for eight months and that the baby was planned.
Stepson uses pipe to break window of home
A 42-year-old Port Orchard man was in Superior Court April 7 charged with residential burglary after breaking into his parents’ home with a pipe.
He faces 10 years in prison and $20,000 in fines.
Kitsap deputies arrested the man April 4 at 2:38 p.m. in the 7300 block of E. Raintree Lane in Port Orchard, court papers say. A stepson was trying to get in through a window. He had come over uninvited, they argued about money and he was told to leave. He refused. He tried to knock down the front door then used a pipe to break the glass of a window. The man’s wife said she thought the younger man was trying to steal things. The stepson left a voicemail on her phone stating he has a lawsuit against them, and if he comes to his house he will “beat their face to death.”
The suspect barricaded himself in a home. He would not come out but told officers to come in. Deputies used a public address system to get him to comply. He would not. About 40 minutes later, he came out and was taken into custody.
’Teething’ baby leads to assault of woman
A 24-year-old Gig Harbor woman was in Superior Court April 7 facing three charges.
For assault, she faces 10 years and a $20,000 fine maximum; for harassment threat to kill five years and $10,000; and for violation of a court order also five years and $10,000.
Court documents say Bremerton police arrested the suspect at 10:59 p.m. April 4 in the 4900 block of Auto Center Way. The victim was curled up in a ball next to a garbage can, and she looked at the officer “with a look of terror on her face.” She had blood all over her face, and bite marks, along with finger marks on her neck from strangulation.
They had been trying to put a baby to bed but she was teething and extremely fussy. That’s what started the fight.
