Johnson named Grand Marshall of Whaling Days Parade

SILVERDALE — The Silverdale Dandy Lions and Silverdale Kiwanis are proud to announce Carl Johnson will be the Grand Marshall for the 2018 Whaling Days Parade.

Johnson has been living in Silverdale since 1985 and has been very active in the local community. He served as a member of the Central Kitsap School Board for 14 years, spending five as board president, and eight years on the Central Kitsap community council, three years as president.

In 1991, he established a non-profit organization, Marketplace CrossTalk, designed to strengthen business ethics, which continues to meet three times per week at the Haselwood YMCA, in addition to once a week in Poulsbo.

Johnson also established Kitsap Outreach Inc., where he has remained president, a non-profit organization responsible for the annual Kitsap County Leadership Prayer Breakfast, which is now in its 33rd year.

In the past, Johnson has served as a member of the Silverdale Chamber Board of Directors and was also on the board of directors for the Better Business Bureau of Alaska, Oregon and Western Washington. In 2009, Johnson incorporated a non-profit 501(c)(3) known as Kitsap Alliance of Resources for Elders (KARE) and previously wrote a monthly column in the Central Kitsap Reporter highlighting issues facing the elderly.

Current duties include serving as the Chairman of the Board for the Olympic Educational Service District, and as a member of the Executive Committee for the Association of Educational Service Districts for the state of Washington.

The 44th annual Silverdale Whaling Days Grand Parade will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 28.
