Impaired driving may have contributed to collision

Commercial truck and sedan end up in the ditch.

PORT ORCHARD — A UPS truck collided with a 1998 Volvo S70 sedan heading east on Highway 160 near the intersection with Jackson Avenue April 21, according to Washington State Patrol report.

As the Volvo driven by a Port Orchard man approached the intersection, it reportedly crossed the center line into the westbound lane and in the path of a UPS box truck. Attempting to avoid a collision, the UPS driver veered into the eastbound shoulder, but the Volvo still hit the truck’s left rear side. The Volvo subsequently skidded into the westbound ditch and the UPS truck ended up in the eastbound ditch.

Although neither driver was injured, the State Patrol trooper reported that drugs or alcohol may have been involved in the crash. An investigation is ongoing.
