Homes near Centennial Park closer to demolition

The city has let a contract to have the two condemned houses on 8th Avenue and above Centennial Park surveyed for hazardous materials so they can be torn down.

Council members approved a $5,560 contract with Pacific Rim to have the company survey the two condemned houses on 8th Avenue and above Centennial Park for hazardous materials.

Once the survey results are back, work can proceed on tearing down the two structures, as well as the old city hall on Jensen Way.

By demolishing all three buildings at the same time, the city hopes to save money.

With the two homes gone, the city will then expand Centennial Park and restore the flood-prone leg of Dogfish Creek that courses through that area.
