14 new Kitsap COVID-19 cases bring total to over 1,000

Hospital now has 59 cases, 38 staff and 21 patients

On Sunday, the Kitsap Public Health District reported 14 new positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the countywide total of positive cases to 1,005 since March.

A total of 68 cases are considered “active” by the district, meaning they are “confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases … participating in daily monitoring.” Another 214 were categorized as “active contacts” or individuals determined to be close contacts of a lab-confirmed case and are participating in daily monitoring.

A total of nine people in Kitsap County have had COVID-19 associated deaths, six of whom have been confirmed since late July, according to the health district. The district is currently not reporting total negative tests due to technical difficulties from the state Department of Health.

There also was an update in the numbers of COVID cases in the outbreak at St. Michael Medical Center in Bremerton. There are now 59 total cases, with 38 being staff and 21 patients.

In July, 422 infections were confirmed by the health district -more that month than all the other months combined. So far in August, 264 cases have been confirmed.

Of the 1,005 total cases, 31 have been reported on Bainbridge Island, 321 n Bremerton, 247 in Central Kitsap, 166 in North Kitsap and 240 in South Kitsap.

The breakdown for confirmed positive cases per 100,000 residents in each age category in the past 30 days is as follows:

0 – 9: 59 (6 percent)

10 – 19: 67 (6 percent)

20 – 29: 224 (25 percent)

30 – 39: 161 (14 percent)

40 – 49: 202 (18 percent)

50 – 59: 114 (13 percent)

60 – 69: 76 (9 percent)

70 – 79: 90 (7 percent)

80 and older: 44 (2 percent)
