Hansville is ready to rummage | Hansville Happenings | August

Here we are again — August in Hansville. Of course this means the big event at the Greater Hansville Community Center at Buck Lake is the annual Rummage Sale.

On around 8 a.m. on Aug. 14 the crowd starts to gather behind the ropes for the 9 a.m. opening.

They strain to see what’s in the furniture section (did I see a set of new bunk beds?) and some of the men are hoping that the lawn mower they can see is for sale, and junior is wondering if he can get a cookie from the food stand before his mom starts shopping.

This year there are so many grand offerings. The silent auction offers a Chrysler van — yes a van, and in good shape — and a two-person kayak. I already told you about the new bunk beds, and you’ll see bookcases and shelves for both your home and the garage, and sofas and bed frames and lots of other gently used pieces.

Inside the building you’ll find the kitchen items — dishes and glasses and pots and pans are in one section — and jewelry in another, and kid’s clothes, and grown-up slacks and blouses and dresses in other places and, well lots of good things with a lot of good wear still in them. Don’t forget to look at the crafts section and in the Christmas area.

Once you’ve looked inside, take a short walk out the back door and look in the annex. Rummage through all the tools and don’t forget to check out the out-board motor. All the articles that have motors or engines have been tested and all the electrical things like toaster or hair dryers have been checked and made sure they work so you don’t have to worry about that.

After you’ve made one pass through all these goodies you can proceed to the check-out stands and if you want to continue shopping, there is an area you can park your bags at and go back to shop again. Or maybe you’ll be ready for a cup of coffee or a cold drink and a sit down in one of the chairs by the food stand.

On Sunday, Aug. 15, all the prices drop to half price.

But this isn’t all that is happening in August in the Hansville Community. One of the other events is the Coaster Games on Aug. 28. Go to Hansville web site www.hansville.org to see times and details. While you’re on that site, look at meeting times for the board of directors and maybe consider attending. After all, this is your community, so taking an interest is important — and volunteering is too.
