Great Give hopes to raise $2 million for nonprofits

It’s no secret that Kitsap has a lot of nonprofits—more than 350—that do a lot of good things in the county.

It’s also no secret for 10 years now the Kitsap Great Give is the biggest fundraiser for many of those nonprofits. This year’s Kitsap Great Give is April 16. But people can start donating to the effort as early as April 1. Go to KitsapGreatGive.org. Kitsap Community Foundation, in collaboration with the United Way of Kitsap County, puts on the event, which has raised $15 million over the years.

Since its inception in 2014, Kitsap Great Give has been a driving force in raising funds to support the nonprofits that contribute to making the county a thriving community, a foundation news release says. It adds they aim to rally the community to raise nearly $2 million in a single day. One in three gifts directly support organizations serving basic human needs, aiding the most vulnerable in the community.

Among the nonprofits participating: 47% are all-volunteer-led; 53% operate with a budget of less than $100,000; and 63% manage budgets of less than $250,000.

Donations will be magnified through a bonus pool contributed by local businesses and people so every dollar goes even further. There is no cost for nonprofits, and donations are tax-deductible, with 100% directly benefiting them.

Tina O’Brien, foundation CEO, said: “While we encourage individuals to give to their favorite organizations year-round, the Kitsap Great Give ignites an annual community movement of generosity that supports our community’s diverse sector of nonprofit organizations – and celebrates the many dedicated staff and volunteers who tirelessly serve the greater good of our county.”
