Getting M&M’s kids on the bus

Martha & Mary is a place where Friday is cookie day, furried and feathered friends abound and everybody has a grandma or grandpa, even if just for a day.

Martha & Mary is a place where Friday is cookie day, furried and feathered friends abound and everybody has a grandma or grandpa, even if just for a day.

Since its humble beginnings in 1891 as a children’s home, Martha & Mary has been a home-grown institution that has nurtured young and old. Most people know of the facility today for its care of elderly and infirmed adults and sometimes forget that kids are also served by the Martha & Mary staff.

But we bet parents who are able to go to work and have a safe place for their kids to go don’t.

Martha & Mary’s childcare and kids clubs are thriving programs where kids get attention, care and love. What’s better, many of these youngsters get a connection to the facility’s older residents with visits to the “grandpas” and “grandmas” at the big building.

This is a worthy program and one that needs the community’s support — especially in raising money for a much-needed bus.

Over the last year, we watched a seemingly impossible goal of raising $150,000 to replace all of Martha & Mary’s beds with new, automated versions receive resounding community support.

Surely, digging into our pockets just a little bit to raise $50,000 to buy the Martha & Mary kids safe transportation is just as worthy a cause.

Time and time again, we’ve seen this community pull together to meet urgent needs. Let’s get “The Wheels on the Bus” rolling for this one.
