PORT ORCHARD — A Waste Management garbage collection truck on Highway 166 near the interchange with SR 16 struck a woman who was a pedestrian on the roadway at about 9:30 a.m. Thursday morning.

Washington State Patrol, which is investigating the incident, said the woman was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma by South Kitsap Fire and Rescue with life-threatening injuries.

WSP is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. Port Orchard Police Department also is at the scene. Troopers said early this afternoon that Highway 166, also known as Bay Street, has been closed for the investigation and is not expected to reopen for another hour or so.
