Fundraisers to help Kingston resident with his medical expenses

KINGSTON — Another fundraising meeting for Jim Norberg will take place at 6:30 p.m. April 1.

The meeting, at Bayside Church at 25992 Barber Cut Off Road NE, will work toward finalizing details of upcoming fundraisers to help Norberg with hospital bills. He was injured in a head-on collision March 11 that sent him and his 14-year-old daughter to the Intensive Care Unit at Harborview Medical Center.

His daughter was released from the hospital within a few days, but Norberg remained in the ICU for more than a week, receiving multiple surgeries.

The collision occurred when Sequim resident Benjamin MacQueen’s car drifted over the centerline on Highway 104 in Kingston, striking the Norbergs’ car.

“We’re trying to get monthly fundraising going for (Norberg),” Cheryl Steele said.

Steele helped organize the first community meeting a week after the collision. She said two fundraisers are planned at the moment, though some details have yet to be finalized.

The first fundraiser will be a car wash on April 25, Steele said, at Kingston Market. The second fundraiser is a dinner, dance and auction planned for May 30 at My Girl Diner. Steele said the event will include a dessert auction, baskets and big-ticket items.

There is also a fundraising account for Norberg, into which people can donate money at any Kitsap Credit Union location.

The community meetings and fundraisers are open to the public.

“We need to keep this alive and alert in our community,” Steele said, “with all these fundraisers that we’re trying to do.”
