Current ninth-grade students are now eligible to participate in the August 2008 WASL.

Previously, ninth-graders didn’t receive their score reports until early September, meaning they couldn’t take the August WASL. Current 10th-, 11th- and 12th-grade students are eligible to take the tests this summer, too.

All eligible students can register for the August WASL at www.k12.wa.us/waslregistration or by calling (866) 400-WASL (9275). Students must have an SSID to register. Summer testing will take place Aug. 11-14.

College

scholarships available

Current seventh- and eighth-grade students may be eligible for a four-year scholarship that covers the cost of college tuition, fees and books. The scholarship is open to low-income students who sign a pledge in seventh or eighth grade promising to graduate from high school and to demonstrate good citizenship. Seventh- and eighth-grade students from families eligible for free or reduced-priced lunches who sign the pledge may participate. For more information, go to www.hecb.wa.gov/collegebound or call (888) 535-0747. The application deadline is June 30.
