The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with county fire agencies, urges people to celebrate safely this Fourth of July.

Deputies will enforce a new state law this year in unincorporated areas of the county regarding legal fireworks. Legal consumer fireworks may only be used in the unincorporated areas of Kitsap County from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, July 4. No other dates for the discharge of fireworks are authorized. The discharge of illegal fireworks is prohibited. The city of Bremerton adheres to the same restrictions.

People are reminded to only purchase legal fireworks from licensed fireworks stands. Consumer fireworks go on sale throughout unincorporated Kitsap County, Bremerton, Port Orchard and Poulsbo noon today until 10 p.m. July 4. Legal consumer fireworks include sparklers, cone fountains, wheels, ground spinners and others.

Firecrackers, bottle rockets and sky rockets/missile-type rockets are only legal to possess and discharge on tribal lands.

Dynamite, M 80s, M 100s and cherry bombs are considered illegal explosives and are prohibited by law. Possession of these explosives or devices is a felony.

To emphasize their commitment to safety, the Kitsap County Fire Chiefs Association will reimburse professional fireworks displays the cost of a Kitsap County fireworks permit fee and the Washington State Patrol fireworks permit fee.
