Despite prayer, woman steals, crashes car

A man prayed for a woman who then stole his car before crashing it into a gate at the Bremerton Police Department.

She was eventually caught and charged with theft of a motor vehicle. Bail was set at $60,000, Kitsap County Superior Court records Dec. 28 say.

The 28-year-old woman, who is apparently a transient, knocked on the man’s door Dec. 27. He didn’t know why she came there, but he invited her in to pray for her. Apparently, she lived in the reporting party’s van six months ago.

He got distracted on the phone when the woman took off with his cell phone and keys and left in his vehicle. Police responded at 5:48 p.m. after the theft was reported in the 1600 block of 4th Street. Driving away at about 5:57 p.m., she hit the police front gate on Burwell Street.

Scared of the officers, she ended up going back to the scene of the crime, where she was apprehended a few minutes later.
