SILVERDALE — Silverdale motorists rejoice: A ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Bucklin Hill Bridge is planned for some time in July.

One possible date for the event is 10 a.m. on Friday, July 22.

Residents of the Crista Shores retirement home, which is located right next to the bridge, Central Kitsap Community Council members and Rep. Derek Kilmer will walk across the bridge and back during the event.

A reception with beverages, cookies will also be at the event. A time-lapse video showing the construction of the bridge will also be shown, and a band may also be present.

Auto group donates $54,000 to YMCA

BREMERTON — Haselwood Auto Group raised more than $54,000 to be donated to the Haselwood Family YMCA.

The Haselwood Family YMCA provides over 26,000 local members the opportunity to provide youth development, social responsibility and healthy living. Haselwood Auto Group designated March to improving the lives of those involved with the YMCA through the “Drive for a Cause” campaign.

During March, the auto group donated $20 for each vehicle purchased; Donated $5 for every service repair order; And offered customers the opportunity to match the donation made.

“This was much more than just us. This was employees, friends, family, and our very loyal, giving customers that contributed to the Drive for a Cause campaign. We support a happy and healthy community and this was a good way to give back to a place that gives so much. We are fortunate to have so many join in our efforts. We value our relationship with our local YMCA and look forward to working so closely together for years to come,”  said Rick Wiler, owner of Haselwood Auto Group.

Holston named to Dean’s List at William Woods University

FULTON, MO — Karissa Holston, a senior from Silverdale, has been named to the Dean’s List at William Woods University for academic accomplishments during the 2016 spring term. To be named to the Dean’s List, a student must be full-time and have achieved a minimum 3.6 semester and cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

Sons of Italy meets third Wednesdays

BREMERTON — The Cataldo Lodge Sons of Italy meets every third Wednesday at the VFW, 190 Dora Ave., in Bremerton. A social begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 6:30 and the meeting at 7:30. Everyone is welcome to attend. Call JoAnn at 360-692-6178 for more information.

Wine festival Aug. 13

BREMERTON — The eighth annual Kitsap Wine Festival at Harborside Fountain Park returns with a celebration of food, wine and community 2-5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13. Guests will enjoy live music, bites from local restaurants and tastings from Washington wineries set against the breathtaking views of Puget Sound and the Port of Bremerton Marina.

Selections include Browne Family Vineyards, Davenport Cellars, Michael Florentino Cellars and more. While sipping wine or ale, guests will also enjoy food from participating restaurants and local purveyors such as Amy’s Decadent Chocolates, Anthony’s at Sinclair Inlet, Bella Bella Cupcakes, Toro Lounge and others.

Kitsap Business Forum presents ‘7 leadership styles that kill success’

SILVERDALE — Jan Harrison with JHarrison Solutions will speak about seven styles of leadership that get in the way of progress. She will also talk about six qualities of a better leader.

The forum will be held at The Best Western Plus Silverdale Beach Hotel 3073 NW Bucklin Hill Road, Silverdale. Networking begins at 7 a.m. and the program is 7:30-9 a.m. June 14. Students headed to Kure, Japan

Students selected to represent Bremerton as exchange students to Bremerton’s sister city, Kure, Japan are: Rosie Harper, 11th grade, Central Kitsap High School; Danielle Acedo, 12th grade, Olympic High School; and Mikos Piliaris, 12th grade, Central Kitsap High School.

The students will be in Kure for one month this summer. This is the 47th year Bremerton has exchanged students with Kure. The Bremerton Central Lions Club sponsors the program.

Three students from Kure will be in Bremerton for four weeks this summer. They will arrive on Monday, July 25, and depart on Sunday, Aug. 21. Anyone interested in being a host to a Japanese exchange student please call Elaine Valencia in the Bremerton Mayor’s office at 473-5266.

Run to Tahoma VII Celebration of Life

PORT ORCHARD — Six unclaimed, deceased veterans will be remembered and honored in ceremony and song at The Unforgotten, Run to Tahoma VII Celebration of Life on Saturday, May 28, during Memorial Day Weekend at the Kitsap County Administration Building plaza, 619 Division Street, Port Orchard.

Participants in this year’s event includes the Duncan Creek String Quartet, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Navy, Suquamish Tribe, Civil Air Patrol, United Service Organization (USO), and vocalists from the Northwest Navy Band and Washington Air National Guard. Following the ceremony, the departed veterans will be escorted to Tahoma National Cemetery near Kent. A video of last year’s Run to Tahoma and a tribute to veterans will be shown at 9:15 a.m. with the ceremony beginning at 9:45 a.m.
