Commemorate Memorial Day on the USS Turner Joy

The historic destroyer USS Turner Joy will host a public Memorial Day ceremony on the ship's fantail at 10 a.m. May 25.

BREMERTON — The historic destroyer USS Turner Joy will host a public Memorial Day ceremony on the ship’s fantail at 10 a.m. May 25.

The event will feature remarks from Cmdr. Jason M Geddes, commanding officer of USS Nebraska (SSBN-739), as well as the playing of “Taps” and the annual laying of the memorial wreath to remember our fallen.

The Northwest Navy Band and the Marine Corps Security Force Battalion Bangor will also participate in the ceremony.

The event is sponsored by the Bremerton-Olympic Peninsula Council of the U.S. Navy League. The council’s president, Tim Katona, will serve as master of ceremonies.

The USS Turner Joy is located on the downtown Bremerton waterfront. Parking is available at the Kitsap Conference Center near the Bremerton Ferry Terminal. Coffee and donuts will be provided following the ceremony on board the ship in the crew’s mess.
