Census 2020: Feds seeking to fill positions in Kitsap County

Census taker jobs will pay $17.50 per hour for full- and part-time positions

PORT ORCHARD — The federal government is gearing up for the upcoming monumental Census 2020 count nationwide. And so are officials in Kitsap County, who are seeking to hire at least 600 workers to conduct the door-to-door survey.

A local Census 2020 official said the positions to be filled are supervisory and non-supervisory full- and part-time jobs paying from $17.50 to $19.50 per hour on a weekly basis. Census takers also will receive reimbursement for work-related mileage and expenses, where applicable. Health benefits are available for employees interested in obtaining them. The positions are to be funded over a two-year period.

Recruiters are looking to fill the jobs in all parts of Kitsap County. After a short period of paid training, census employees will canvas assigned areas to gather data from area residents that will be used to complete the national Census 2020 survey.
