Caldart’s time has definitely come

Poulsbo City Councilman Dale Rudolph might just have to get up on the table at City Hall and dance a jig tonight. At long last, a project that has been put on the back burner so long it’s been permanently crisped might finally be getting some deserved attention.

Poulsbo City Councilman Dale Rudolph might just have to get up on the table at City Hall and dance a jig tonight. At long last, a project that has been put on the back burner so long it’s been permanently crisped might finally be getting some deserved attention.

Caldart, one of Rudolph’s favorite postponed projects, might just be getting the much-needed improvements the councilman has championed for years.

The street has been on the city’s lengthy “to do” list ever since kids could jump over the puddles (which are now the size of small lakes) on the popular thoroughfare. To his credit, Rudolph has worked diligently to ensure that Caldart work didn’t end up on the “whatever-happened-to-that one?” list.

The city council should give this project its full support, not just to ensure that local trout fishermen don’t get confused on rainy North Kitsap days, but rather in the name of safety.

Caldart is walked by countless kids on their way to and from school each weekday this time of year, many of whom have found the driest places to walk are actually on the roadway.

While it’s a shame this safety problem has continued so long, primarily due to funding reasons, council should take advantage of the situation and start taking whatever steps necessary to ensure that those taken by local students and pedestrians are less hazardous.

Yes indeed, Caldart’s been a moving target for years but it’s high time to nail a bull’s-eye.
