Bridge decision due on Monday

The district is concerned that bridges and culvert may fail and damage firetrucks or injure firefighters.

The Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue board of directors will vote on whether to adopt the limited access roadways,bridge and culvert policy at their meeting Monday.

The board will meet at 4 p.m. at the Administrative Building, 5300 N.W. Newberry Hill Road, Suite 101, Silverdale.

The policy has been a topic of two public meetings and will require property owners with bridges and/or culvert that are longer than 24 feet to have them inspected by a certified engineer and have a weight limit posted, before the district will take its rigs across them.

The district is concerned that bridges and culvert may fail and damage firetrucks or injure firefighters.

During public meetings on the topic, residents said they were concerned about the cost of inspections. But the board is expected to adopt the policy.

In other matters, the board will discuss the transfer of ownership of the 9/11 steel beams from CK Fire & Rescue to the 9/11 Memorial Committee.
