Bremerton school board to meet Thursday

On the agenda is a discussion of the district's medication policy

The board of education for the Bremerton Public Schools will meet at 5 p.m. Thursday at the administration building, 134 Marion Ave., in Bremerton.

Board members will continue their discussion about changes to the district’s medication policy that began last month.

The agenda documentation states that the policy will be changed to allow students to self-administer their medication only after approved by the principal after consulting with the school nurse.

Such things as the maturity of the student and the specifics of the medication will be taken into account.

A policy regarding classroom management, discipline and corrective action also will be discussed.

An agenda document states that the changes align with state rules on how and when students are disciplined, focusing more on corrective action and less on punishment.

Board officers for the coming school year also will be chosen.

A detailed agenda is posted on the school district’s website.
