Bremerton First Friday Art Walk: The 2nd Annual Kids Art Show

Deadline to submit entries in children's poster contest is Friday.

Budding young artists, here’s your chance to shine.

Area youth in grades K-5 are invited to enter a poster contest. Using the theme, ‘Camping in the Mountains’ as the focus, the June 7 First Friday Art Walk will feature entries by local young artists at the Amy Burnett Gallery and the Bremerton Chamber of Commerce.

The event was inspired last year by local young artist, Shen Stewart, a 5th grade student at Our Lady Star of the Sea school in Bremerton. Stewart came up with last years’ theme, ‘The Sea Meets the Beach’, which resulted in 120 poster entries. Stewart also created this years’ theme.

“Last year’s event had the promise of bigger things to come. The challenge has been to get the information to the teachers and then to the parents and then to follow up to encourage the children to participate,” said Shen Stewart’s mom, Kim Stewart.

“The Windermere Foundation provided the grant funding for prizes and award certificates,” said event organizer Julie Cooper. “Amy Burnett graciously provides wall space to hang our masterpieces in her gallery.
