Boy, 7, dies after accident

POULSBO — A local 7-year-old boy was killed in an accident at Armstrong Fitness University in Poulsbo Tuesday evening. The boy sustained a fatal head injury while at the gym with his father. Poulsbo Fire Department spokesperson Jody Matson said it is believed weight equipment may have fallen on the boy, though details have yet to be confirmed.

The boy was unconscious in the center’s lobby upon PFD’s arrival. Paramedics began CPR, and the boy was airlifted from the scene to the trauma unit at Harborview Medical Center. He was later pronounced dead.

When called Wednesday morning, a voice message on the gym’s answering machine stated the facility is closed today due to a death in the family. Scheduled physical therapy appointments will continue. The message also said it is hoped it will open again Thursday, but urged members to call before coming to work out.

The Herald will provide updates as more information becomes available.
