POULSBO — The Grinch may not steal Christmas in the North End after all, as donations picked up after the Thanksgiving holiday.

By 3 p.m. Monday, more than $800 had been given as Bellringer appears to be gaining momentum toward its $30,000 goal for the 2005 campaign.

Fran and Dolph Jaeger even issued a challenge to Poulsbo City Councilman Ed Stern to top their donation of $201.

Hopefully Stern and others in the community will top that donation and help the fund meet its goal.

Mike’s Car Wash in Poulsbo remains in the giving spirit as owner Mike Brooks is once again donating a portion of his proceeds during this month and December to give the fund a boost.

Bellringer, a part of the Raab Foundation, which is administered by the Poulsbo Noon Lions Club, provides one-time assistance with food, help with bills, emergency transportation and Christmas food baskets through North Kitsap Fishline.

Donations to the fund can be dropped off at the Kitsap Bank branch in Poulsbo or the North Kitsap Herald, 18887 Highway 305, Suite 700. Donations can also be mailed to Bellringer Fund, P.O. Box 1244, Poulsbo, WA 98370.

The help number for the fund is (360) 697-6087.

The Herald is once again sponsoring its Holiday Toy Box Drive, accepting new, unwrapped presents for local children. Toys will be accepted from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday at the Herald.

Deadline for the toy drive is Dec. 12.
