Allan passed away on June 18 at Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton. The cause of death was coronary artery disease. He was 74.

Allan was born in Port Gamble on Jan. 9, 1940, to Hadley Morgan Wang and Myrtle June (Melseth) Wang. He attended North Kitsap High School and in 1956 joined the National Guard. He served in the National Guard for two years.

In 1957, Allan married Carol Meyers in Poulsbo. During their marriage, they had three daughters, Katharine, Christie and Shawnda. Allan and Carol divorced in the early 1960s.

Halibut fishing in Alaska was Allan’s primary occupation between the mid-1960s and early 1980s. This is where he acquired the nickname “Halibut Al.”

In 1990, he served as a merchant seaman aboard a munitions freighter that sailed to the Persian Gulf during the first Iraq War.

Among Allan’s greatest interests was his devotion to friend Bill W. and Serenity House. For more than 30 years, he acted as a humanitarian and board member, aiding others in their sobriety.

Allan also enjoyed traveling. He especially liked traveling in his RV across the Americas and did so on several occasions. His pride and joy was his fully restored 1940 Ford Coupe, which he displayed at many classic car shows.

As an infant, Allan was baptized in the Lutheran Church, but as an adult, he enjoyed attending church services of other denominations.

Allan is survived by his daughter, Katharine Bennett, of Tacoma; and cousins, Gail Matheny and Anne Anderson of Port Angeles, Stephen and Curtis Melseth of Poulsbo, and Marc Matheny of Kent.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two daughters, Shawnda and Christie.
