41-year sentence for Seabeck man

Stephen R. Jabs, 53, was sentenced to 41 years in prison for sexually assaulting five girls he had baby-sat.

PORT ORCHARD — Stephen R. Jabs, 53, was sentenced to 41 years in prison for sexually assaulting five girls he had baby-sat.

Convicted by Kitsap County Superior Court on July 18, Jabs was originally arrested on suspicion of rape on Sept. 25, 2014, at his home on Holly Road near Seabeck. There, Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office investigators found inappropriate photographs of underage children.

Before his arrest, Jabs was a volunteer at Crownhill Elementary School and West Hills STEM Academy. He was dismissed after his arrest. No sexual assaults were alleged to have taken place at the schools.

Jabs pleaded not guilty on all charges in court.

He was convicted of felony rape of a child in the first degree, felony child molestation in the first degree, and felony communication with a minor for immoral purposes. The 41-year sentence comprises midrange sentences for each of the five victims, to be served consecutively.
