100 new jobs heading to Poulsbo

POULSBO — Poulsbo will welcome a new manufacturing company expected to bring a hundred jobs.

Westbury, Inc., a Seattle-based company with a patent for a kind of safety barrier designed for airports and stadiums, hopes to move into its facility at Twelve-Trees Business Park at 26268 Twelve Trees Lane Nov. 1, but not later than Nov. 15, said Kathy Cocus, business development director for the Kitsap Economic Development Alliance.

The 100 jobs aimed at low- and middle-income workers will pay $16 an hour and will be added gradually, Cocus said, and will be filled by the state’s WorkSource centers.

In all, the new employer is expected to generate almost $31 million in economic activity, according to a study provided by the alliance.

Westbury is receiving $2 million in start-up money from a county-backed loan from a federal program to encourage business investment.

The Kitsap Regional Coordinating Council reviewed the application from Westbury. Poulsbo Mayor Kathryn Quade is chairwoman of the council.

Poulsbo City Councilman Ed Stern called the new addition a “success story” and credited Councilwoman Kim Crowder with helping steer the new employer to the area.
