Plans are underway for the Run to Tahoma which has become a tradition for area veterans.
On Saturday, May 25, at 10:45 a.m., the Kitsap County Veterans Advisory Board and Chapter 5, Combat Veterans International, will receive the unclaimed remains of deceased veterans and take them to Tahoma National Cemetery.
The event, known as the Run to Tahoma includes a military honor escort. Prior to departure, there will be a “celebration of their lives” with a brief service outside the coroner’s office in West Bremerton.
Kitsap Veterans Advisory Board officials said the event is to honor veterans who are passing without family.
More than 300 fellow veterans participated last year and are expected again this year. To be a part of the event, contact the Kitsap Veterans Advisory Board at 360-801-6086 or email momuddog@yahoo.com.
