PORT ORCHARD — The Kitsap County Veterans Treatment Court is recruiting volunteer veteran mentors for the county’s Veterans Treatment Court. 

The court works with veterans with substance abuse and/or mental health issues that impede successful reintegration back into civilian life.

The volunteer mentor assists as an advocate, guide, role model, and support for the individual he or she is working with, to help the veteran as he or she progresses through the court process.

This includes listening to concerns of the veteran and making general suggestions, helping the veteran determine what their needs are.

An ideal mentor is a good listener, encouraging, supportive, understanding, tolerant and respectful of individual differences.
