Captain Joseph House team to run marathon

The loneliness of the long distance runner has been well documented, but that feeling is no where to be found among the members of Team Run For Joe, the running team of Captain Joseph House Foundation (CJHF).
Betsy Schultz founded CJHF in 2011 in memory of her son, Green Beret Captain Joseph Schultz, KIA Afghanistan, May 29, 2011. Recently Betsy Schultz, CJHF board members and a team of volunteers that includes veterans, parents, siblings and supporters drawn from around the United States and from all walks of life launched the foundation’s campaign to sign up runners and attract supporters for Team Run For Joe in the North Olympia Discovery Marathon in Port Angeles on June 1.
CJHF was founded to care for the Gold Star Families of the Fallen, from all corners of the United States, and to provide retreat and educational support to those who have lost a loved one during the global war on terror. Captain Joseph House is located in Port Angeles and this year’s event will be the second year of a partnership with the popular North Olympic Discovery Marathon.
Captain Joseph House Foundation is a nonprofit charitable organization.
The North Olympic Discovery Marathon and Half Marathon takes place on a unique point-to-point course that incorporates the beautiful Olympic Discovery Trail with stunning views of the Olympic Mountains.
This rails to trails course is a wide, mixed/hard surface trail. The race is organized by the Port Angeles Marathon Association. The marathon is a USATF certified course and a Boston Marathon qualifier.
Members can sign up for the marathon, half marathon, marathon walk, OMC 5K and 10K, corporate, military and high school relay groups and kid’s “marathon.”
Interested parties may register for Team Run For Joe online and a team package includes a t-shirt and “race survival pack.”
Participants are expected to fundraise on behalf of CJHF. Team Run For Joe is aiming to raise $30,000 or more for the CJHF. Funds will go toward both the remodel of the House required to meet current building standards and accommodate guest family rooms, as well as activities and services planned for grieving Gold Star military families who will come from across the country.
