Stillwaters’ EcoFest moved to June 9 | Choices for the Future

As I write, it feels like winter, but they say spring is coming. I believe Earth will bring us spring eventually, and we’ll all be glad to celebrate Earth once again.

As I write, it feels like winter, but they say spring is coming. I believe Earth will bring us spring eventually, and we’ll all be glad to celebrate Earth once again.

April 22 is Earth Day, a worldwide celebration of Earth started in 1970. At Stillwaters, we have been celebrating with EcoFest (ecology festival) every April. Over the years we’ve had way more snow and rain than pleasant weather for this outdoor community event. This year, we are “wising up” and moving EcoFest to June 9. With any luck, at least the rain will be warmer.

But we can all still celebrate Earth Day every day, and especially at these various events near here.

– World Earth Hour 2012: March 31, 8:30-9:30 p.m. On March 31, hundreds of millions of citizens from 100 different countries will switch off the lights. In 2010, people turned off their lights for World Earth Hour. For Earth Hour 2012, we will continue this powerful global action on climate change.

World Earth Hour is the largest call for action on climate change in history and continues to grow every year. Celebrate your action for the planet with the people of world by switching off your lights for an hour, then go beyond the hour and switch them off every chance you get. You can have fun with this by creating your Earth Hour Lantern — see www.earthhour.org/page/fun-stuff/virtual-lantern — and sharing it on Facebook or Twitter.

– In Your Own Backyard?: Plant a Tree, save the planet, any day in April. A challenge to each and every one of us to make a difference in the world and plant a tree. Need a tree? Check out the native plant nursery at Stillwaters.
