New stores, long runs mark April | Port Gamble Gazette | April

General store opens

We have had a busy March and April, with the General Store opening March 6 and the café opening March 13.

Kim, Erik, Sarah and their crew have been busy making sure the computers are operating, their staff is getting used to the new kitchen layout and they are all learning the ins and outs of Port Gamble. The No. 1 question being, “Where is the restroom?”

The General Store has a wide variety of Port Gamble labeled items and the café is serving fresh food made from scratch and will feature organic food whenever possible.

Quilt shop on its way

The other exciting new business that will open its doors at 10 a.m. April 20 is the Quilted Strait Quilt Shop.

Kris and Jerry Cornell have been located in Port Angeles for the past seven years and decided to make the change last year. The shop has more than 3,000 bolts of fabric including wools, batiks, novelties and Asian inspired fabrics.

The shop will be moving into the big red barn which used to house the stables and the maintenance shop for many years.

The Quilted Strait is known for their great selection, online store and phenomenal classes.

Visit their Web site at: www.quiltedstrait.com; also look for Kris’s classes to start back up on May 9 – Wool Appliqué Workshop.

‘Lumberjack’ runs

We are very excited about this one. Through the hard work of John and Debbee Straub Port Gamble will host 100-mile, 100-kilometer, and 50-mile runs.

The run will consist of eight, 12.5-mile loops with three fully stocked aid stations per loop (start/finish line included), a 30-hour official time limit and the option to run whatever distance you like. Official finishes will be for 50 miles (four loops) and 100 kilometers (five loops).
