Help prevent head injuries | NKF&R | May

National Safe Kids Week is April 25 through May 3. This year, the focus is on prevention of sports-related head injuries.

We commend the efforts of the North Kitsap School District’s athletic directors and coaches to increase awareness about concussion and, together with Safe Kids Kitsap, are working on connecting with coaches from sports leagues.

All concussions are serious, even though many occur without a loss of consciousness. Recognition and proper response to concussions can prevent further injury. Learn the signs and symptoms of concussion. A wealth of important information on the topic is available at www.safekids.org or www.cdc.gov/concussion.

Most importantly: When in doubt, sit them out. Lastly, if you can help us reach coaches and sports leagues with the word about preventing sports-related head injuries, contact us at (360) 297-3619 or via e-mail at laboda@nkfr.org.
