The upcoming municipal election requires a close evaluation of those who have and will manage the affairs of our community. These individuals have a profound impact on our quality of life, which as residents is inseparably intertwined with this city and its neighborhood.

I have been profoundly disappointed with Mayor Kathryn Quade.

I met her on several occasions representing our neighborhood association to sharing correspondence. I expressed our neighborhood’s decade-long concern over traffic that often nears 40 mph in a family subdivision with no sidewalks and many children. I told of the near misses both adult and child pedestrians have had with speeding cars. Her last reply was a curt, non-committal, “everyone’s concerned about traffic.”

Yes, Poulsbo has many traffic problems. It certainly was not our neighborhood’s expectation that heaven and hell be moved to solve our unique traffic dilemma, but a sincere offer of city assistance would have been welcomed. Somebody has her ear … and spread enough fertilizer to produce a bumper crop of downtown stop signs.

When tin ears replace a cooperative attitude and commitment to serve, it’s time to make a change.
