People come from all over the state to have the Precision Window Tinting team work on their vehicles.

“We’re ranked within the top five installers in the world,” Precision Window Tinting manager Dan Shaw said.

He won the International Window Film Tint-Off in 2003 and said they typically do well at the event.

“I’m usually between first and fifth,” he said.

Shaw, 31, opened Precision Window Tinting next to Peninsula Subaru in Gorst in 2003, but recently moved the business to 2600 Randall Way in Silverdale.

Shaw and his wife, Misty, decided to move the business to Silverdale for better visibility. Shaw also said there are more things for Precision clients to do in Silverdale while they’re waiting for their vehicles to be finished.

The Precision Window Tinting team tints windows on six to eight cars a day.

“Some days more, some days less, but that’s about average,” Shaw said.

The Precision window tinting process only takes one to two hours, about half the time of other businesses, according to Shaw.

An Olympic High School grad, Shaw began tinting windows right out of high school. When he left the company he was working for, he decided the time was right to open his own business.

“The next best thing to do was to do it my way and have full creative control,” he said.

Shaw still does installations from time to time, but now he has a crew of factory-certified technicians who work on the vehicles.

“There’s times where I do some installations,” he said.

At international competitions, Shaw competes against older, more experienced men and women. However, he said most of the competitors do window tinting as a side business or hobby, while he focuses entirely on the skill.

“Being younger, I have to be more motivated, more dedicated,” Shaw said. “As far as window tinting, no one’s going to give you better quality than Precision.”

The business also specializes in vehicle paint protection. Precision is the exclusive licensed source for 3M Scotchgard and VentureShield products in Kitsap County.

Shaw said the Clear Bra paint protection film is a newer product and Precision is happy to keep up with the latest products and techniques to better serve clients.

“I think that’s what allows us to get better year after year,” he said.

Shaw said owning a business can be stressful, but he still enjoys running Precision with his wife.

“It takes a lot of time, a lot of time and a lot of hard work, but it’s very rewarding,” he said.
