Pacific Northwest Costume moves into new digs in Bremerton

Halloween is right around the corner and Pacific Northwest Costume is moving into new digs just in time for the October rush.

The new, larger Pacific Northwest Costume, located on Riddell Road in Bremerton, is in the same strip mall as the old location. The former location occupied a 1,600-square-foot space and the new location sits on more than 2,300-square feet.

“This is going to be fantastic. I can’t wait to get it open,” Pacific Northwest Costume owner Annetta Butler said.

Butler and her business partner, Sherrill Taylor, opened Pacific Northwest Costume in 1981 in Redmond. The duo decided to open a store in Bremerton in 1991 and now Taylor runs the Redmond store while Butler works at the local shop.

When they first started the business, Butler said she and Taylor hand-made most of the costumes sold and rented at Pacific Northwest Costume, but now the store’s rental department is primarily filled with costumes they’ve created themselves.

Butler said the larger Bremerton store has more than two times the amount of retail space, which means she will offer more lines of costumes, including the popular brand Cinema Secrets. Butler said Pacific Northwest Costume also will offer more plus sizes and a small line of lingerie at the Bremerton store.

“We’ll be expanding all our retail departments and carrying several new lines,” she said.

The larger Pacific Northwest Costume will have larger shoe and wig departments. The store also will carry a larger selection of special effects makeup.

“We’ve just increased our inventory tremendously,” Butler said.

She said she’s excited about the larger space and intends to put more costume displays in the front windows. The smaller Pacific Northwest Costume shop did not have space for window displays.

Butler said she and many helpers will move into the new store this weekend, making it a busy weekend for her and costume shop employees.

“I have all hands on deck for this weekend,” she said. “So don’t even smile when you walk past here or you’ll be put to work.”

Butler said people from as far away as Port Angeles shop at Pacific Northwest Costume in Bremerton. People also can order costumes, makeup and other items from the company’s Web site at

www.pacificnwcostume.com.

“We ship all over the world,” Butler said.

She said Halloween is the second largest shopping holiday of the year, so Pacific Northwest Costume is open extended hours in October.

“It’s the second largest shopping day next to Christmas, which astounds me and I’m in the business,” she said.

Pacific Northwest Costume’s grand opening celebration is from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30 at the new Bremerton store.

“Everybody in the whole world who wants to come can come,” Butler said.

The grand opening festivities will include a costume fashion show, food and beverages, door prizes and live music from The Band With No Name.

“And of course cash registers will be open if anybody wants to buy anything,” Butler said.
