Kingston’s Main Street Station is a cut above the rest

KINGSTON — Stylish hair and nails in an incredibly chic locale defines the Main Street Hair Station in Kingston.

It’s funky interior boasts vibrant red and gray walls, with groovy, low-placed windows looking onto Kingston’s downtown core.

Owner Lori Ann Lupo said the interior was designed around the Craftsman tool boxes, which take the place of hair stations.

Everything else — the hours, product lines, service, music — are designed around the customers’ every whim and need.

“We’re here to accommodate the client, that’s the main thing,” said Lupo, who’s been a stylist since 1977. “We know people have to work, especially with the way the economy is, so we work around peoples’ schedules.”

Lupo is at the shop Monday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., regardless if it’s busy or not, to accommodate walk-in traffic. Other than that, the hours are flexible to fit the needs of the clientele.

Lupo and partner Megan Pelliciotta will show up before dawn and stay till 11 p.m. Sundays are by appointment only and the phone diverts to Lupo’s cell so it’s answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

As for a little feast for the ears while sitting in the cushy chairs, clients can bring in their own music or make requests.

On Wednesday afternoon some Creedence Clearwater Revival and Elton John filtered throughout the shop’s cozy interior.

“We try and have a really relaxed atmosphere and our clients really seem to enjoy that,” Lupo said.

Clients can choose from manicures, pedicures and full-body waxing to the complete spectrum of hair services — cuts, styles, foils, colors, perms, even dreadlocks.

Ample time is spent on every client consultant.

They can also choose from an array of teas, coffee or hot chocolate to treat the palate and receive a 10 percent discount on food ordered from the restaurant upstairs.

These beauty divas also have the edge on experience expertise.

Both Lupo and Pelliciotta regularly attend continuing education seminars around the country and every spring Lupo attends the Matrix Global Academy in New York City.

The Hair Station is the third salon Lupo’s owned and last year she finished second in the Matrix Look Series for hair color.

Pelliciotta has two years of experience, is studying with Redkin, learning the ropes of extensions and constantly working on advanced training.

The Hair Station, which opened June 4, is located at 11202 NE State Highway 104 in Kingston. For an appointment call (360) 297-2047.
