Joe Gates Construction is marking its 20th year of building and remodeling.
Gates began his career in construction as a teenager in 1976, and worked in both custom residential and commercial construction before starting Joe Gates Construction Inc. with his wife and partner Judy in 1989. In that time, the Gates have built or remodeled more than 200 homes in the Kitsap Peninsula area.
“So much has changed since we began building homes, but the founding principles of our company have remained steadfast,” Gates said.

West Sound Workforce celebrates EOM
West Sound Workforce has honored Alma Sisk as the November 2008 employee of the month.
Sisk serves as an office assistant in a fast-paced environment. In her nomination Sisk’s supervisor said, “Alma is responsible for receptionist duties, customer service and multifaceted database projects. Alma’s work is always perfect. She completes every task in a timely, neat and professional manner.
Sisk was honored by West Sound Workforce with gifts, an award certificate and floral arrangement at her local awards celebration.
Kitsap Physical Therapy’s been in business for 30 years
Kitsap Physical Therapy was founded in January 1979 by Mike and Barb Danford. Mike specialized in orthopedics and sports injury management while Barb specialized in pediatrics.
From the beginning, they were committed to accelerated skill development of the staff so they could provide highly skilled treatment programs for their patients. They began at the North Kitsap Medical Center and opened a Bainbridge Island office in 1983. In the 1990s they added offices in Kingston, at Poulsbo Village, and in Silverdale and Bremerton.
In 1986 Dave Damon joined KPT and in 1994 he became a partner. Damon was a valuable contributor to Kitsap Physical Therapy’s growth and success. Kitsap Physical Therapy’s staff is proud of what they have accomplished and continue to be committed to even further improvements evolving with the times.
The staff has continued to grow and evolve into a group practice with 13 partners and has worked hard to expand the specialty programs Kitsap Physical Therapy offers to better serve the needs of our communities.
Kitsap Bank sees profitability, growth in 2008
Kitsap Bank, with 12 full-service branches in Kitsap County, reported solid performance for 2008 with earnings of $8.5 million. Assets rose 6 percent, growing by $44 million to $814 million at year end. Deposits increased $33 million for the year, to total $633 million, while loans recorded a modest increase to $657 million.
The bank reported total capital of $83 million as of Dec. 31.
Kitsap Bank maintains its position as the largest bank in Kitsap County, with 19 percent market share.

Local Group Buys Zone Sportsplex
A local group, headed by Rich Hecker and Brian Edgren, has purchased the Zone Sportsplex.
“We would like to thank Ted and Stacie Thetford, Stan and Kelli Crabtree, and Geoff Yeowell for their amazing vision in building the Zone Sportsplex into what it is today: the Premier Indoor Sports and Entertainment Complex on the Peninsula,” Edgren said.
The Zone Sportsplex is a 42,000 square-foot, year-round, climate-controlled, indoor multi-purpose sports and entertainment facility for baseball, softball, soccer, lacrosse, flag football, volleyball and is home to Kitsap County’s best batting cages. There are also meeting rooms and a cafe for anything from birthday parties to business seminars.
“This is the community’s playground, and our job is to provide an extraordinary experience for everyone who walks through the door,” Hecker said.
