Bremerton wedding planner wins Bride’s Choice award

Event planning seems to be in Karen Guyt’s blood.

Event planning seems to be in Karen Guyt’s blood.

Guyt has owned studio G occasions in Bremerton for seven years, but she’s been organizing and planning events for years.

“I’ve been doing event planning since I was 16 when I organized and catered a sweetheart dance at my church,” she said.

Guyt plans and organizes various social events, including weddings, showers and anniversary parties.

“I prefer not to do the corporate things,” she said.

She said she’ll do “as much or as little” as a client needs or wants for an event. She said the most common thing she does is confirm vendors and lay out the wedding rehearsal and day of schedule.

“It’s a minute-by-minute schedule of things, where things need to be, all of that,” Guyt said.

She plans and organizes roughly 10 events a year in various capacities. She said she’s began working with brides a year before the wedding, planning every detail, and will occasionally start helping a week before the event to get everything finalized.

“It varies from just planning to just flowers or just decor,” Guyt said.

She prefers to begin working with a bride from start to finish when planning a wedding because she knows some ways to save money and still have an elegant event.

“I like to help with it all because sometimes girls see these TV weddings and think they can’t afford that when there is a cheap way to do it,” she said.

Guyt and studio G occasions recently won a Bride’s Choice award from the WeddingWire Network. Recent newlyweds completed surveys and reviews through the Web site, www.weddingwire.com, to select the winners.

“It came out of the blue,” Guyt said of winning the award. “I work really hard and I didn’t know that was coming out.”

Guyt has planned and organized weddings throughout the county as well as in Tacoma and Port Hadlock.

“I try to stay regional,” she said.

Guyt traveled to California to help with her stepsister’s wedding. She said that wedding was fun to organize because she and her stepsister have similar tastes.

“It all just came together because we had the same tastes,” she said. “I’m really proud of that one. It was beautiful.”

She doesn’t have a favorite wedding she’s planned, but she takes away memories from each one.

“They all have their charms,” she said.

She once had a bride walk down the aisle to Gretchen Wilson’s “Redneck Woman.” She also remembers a bride who had brain surgery a week after the wedding.

“So we tried to make it really special,” Guyt said.

She said having a wedding planner alleviates some of the stress on a bride and the others organizing the event.

“I’ve never had a bridezilla because knowing you have a staff takes some of the stress off,” she said.

Guyt plans to keep organizing events and her 12-year-old daughter may even get into the family business.

“My daughter’s hoping she’ll be old enough to help someday,” she said.
