    BREMERTON—Bremerton Kitsap Access Television is recruiting new members for its citizen advisory board, 12 to be exact as it hasn’t met in over four years.

    The Bremerton City Council amended the city code — officially called Ordinance No. 5279 — to increase the group’s total membership from nine to 12.

    Walking for a cure

    BREMERTON—They started walking about noon Saturday, June 27. As the heat crested 90 degrees, they kept kept walking. When the moon peaked, they were walking. And as the sun crept over Sinclair Inlet, they were still out there, wearing out the soles of their shoes.

    For almost 24 hours, about 200 people from 30 teams walked the track at Bremerton High School during the 2015 Relay For Life at Bremerton High School to benefit cancer research. This is the 30th anniversary of the relay and the 20th time it’s been done in Bremerton-Central Kitsap.

    The U.S. Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage nationwide today in a landmark 5-4 decision.

    City can’t restrict firework use until 2017

    BREMERTON—Despite extremely dry temperatures for the area, fireworks will still be legal July 4 from 11 a.m – 11 p.m.

    Bremerton City Council members and the fire department support changing city code to allow banning the discharge of fireworks during times of extreme danger.

    However, any new city laws restricting the use of fireworks must be in place for 365 days before it takes effect. Meaning, 2017 is the earliest any new regulation would be imposed.

    BREMERTON—An errant cigarette butt appears to have caused the 3-alarm fire at Edgewood Villa Apartment in Manette that left 16 people without a home yesterday.

    “The tenant of the apartment admitted to throwing his cigarette butts into a cardboard box on the deck,” said Fire Marshal Mike Six.

    BREMERTON—There were no injuries after a three-alarm fire rampaged through the top floor of an apartment unit at Edgewood Apartment Villa in Manette June 22.

    Huge orange flames tore a huge hole in the center of Building F. A manager on site grabbed a garden hose and pointed it at the fire.

    BREMERTON—Bremerton Police arrested a former 28-year-old Navy Corpsman June 18 in the death of a 19-month-old boy.

    An autopsy report found brain swelling and over 20 bruises along his scalp, ranging from “dime size to 50-cent pieces, and most of which were circular in shape.”

    The Bremerton Chamber of Commerce hosted its monthly luncheon at the Kitsap Golf and Country Club on June 16. James McCanna, a Kingston based employment attorney, addressed chamber members on the issue of marijuana use by employees.
