A 21-year-old Port Orchard man remains at large after being charged with first-degree robbery in Kitsap County Superior Court May 15.
Police were called to the parking lot of Forest Park Grocery and Deli on the corner of South Street and West Avenue at 11:30 p.m. May 9. A woman reported she had just closed up shop and was walking to her car when the suspect approached her from behind and drew a gun demanding money.
The woman struggled and yelled at her boyfriend to call 911 as she said she was on the phone with him at the time of the attack. The suspect pulled her to the side of the building where she said he suggested a different form of payment and began to grab at her clothing.
Believing she was about to be raped, the woman continued to fight. She reported being briefly strangled and kneed in the head before the suspect fled, leaving her with minor injuries.
The victim said she recognized the assailant’s voice as someone she had heard earlier that day. A series of photos and video footage provided by a neighboring residence led her to identifying the suspect as a regular customer of the store.
