Bremerton man charged with armed burglary

The homeowner chased the suspect after he fled, according to police.

A 53-year-old Bremerton man was arrested Thursday after police say he tried to burglarize a home on Callow Ave.

According to a certificate of probable cause filed in Kitsap County, a man was walking his dog when he noticed the door to his home “had been forcibly broken open.” He entered and saw Nicholas Castillo, who police described as a transient, and another man allegedly “packing several of his belongings into a black plastic garbage bag.” The alleged victim said Castillo was armed with one of his “large buck knives.”

According to police, the homeowner “ran after” Castillo after he attempted to flee. They then fought “on the street,” police said.

“[The homeowner] and Castillo were contacted by law enforcement on the street outside the residence, and Castillo was taken into custody,” the court filing states. Police say they found Castillo with four cellphones in his jacket pockets, which the homeowner said were stolen.

Castillo had one outstanding felony warrant and two misdemeanor warrants, police said. He was charged armed burglary, a class A felony punishable by up to life in prison.

He is being held on $100,000 bail.
